This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
