The Princess of Wales's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Musical Talent and Access
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for food banks.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
