Outrage as Beloved South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three individuals, with one shot at him before running away.
The motive of the attack has not been established and no arrests have been made, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Law enforcement indicated that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a location in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement confirmed.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a guard's attire shooting on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the attack.
Important clues, like cartridges, were discovered at the location.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and police have been tracking them to find their destination," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I am shattered," she said.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were ready to discuss. This is a devastating blow."
She requested the public to not sharing explicit content from the incident, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, above all for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that premiered on a South African TV network.
Beyond his role as a presenter, Stock was involved in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, supplying elite guarding services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and participated in building evictions.
National Shock
His killing has caused national trauma and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the authorities and various organizations.
A senior figure commented he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He expressed his views fearlessly and impartially. He even criticized me and my decisions as a public official. He was a shining model of who we should be," was his tribute.
A public representative commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A industry leader noted that "DJ Warras was far beyond a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a true devotee of sound and a generous spirit who brought excitement and dynamism to every appearance. His artistic passion left an indefinable mark."
In a release, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, warmth and quick humor, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
