Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
